Looking for a low-prep and easy way to teach animal classification in your 2nd or 3rd grade classroom? This 8-day content study walks students through the six major animal groups with meaningful activities, engaging visuals, and opportunities to collaborate and create. It’s science made simple — and FUN.


This 8 day plan is based on -> THIS CONTENT STUDY<- This means all the activities you need can be found right there! Literally. It is all right there. It includes activities for mammals, reptiles, amphibians, fish, birds, insects. You will also get a layout of the entire content study, research guide, and animal classification posters!


What’s Included Each Day:

  • PowerPoint for guided instruction

  • Printable mini book for students to fill out while going through the PPT

  • Collaborative class poster for hallway/classroom displays

Now, here’s how the unit is structured:


Day 1-6: Go over each type of animal classification (1-mammal, 2-reptile, 3-amphibian, 4-fish, 5-bird, and 6-insect)

  • Learn about the animal type through the PPT overview

  • Students fill out a mini book as you teach

  • Create a collaborative class poster with student contributions


Day 7: Research

  • Each student chooses one animal from any group

  • They complete a research guide and write a paragraph (which I have made and included in the bundle as a BONUS!)

  • Perfect for centers or quiet time review


Day 8: Presentations

  • Students share their animal project with the class
