Okay so you hear the word collaborative and you probably think "well that sounds like a good idea", but you are also probably thinking "it is probably a complicated activity". I am hear to tell you that #1 it is a AMAZING idea and #2 it is NOT complicated at all! I am going to breakdown several ways that you can use collaborative colorings in your classroom!

Let's start by hearing what one teachers said about collaborative colorings.

"I LOVE this resource so much. YOu make up your own equations, so you can differentiate it and use any topic you want for the questions. It is very easy to follow and the directions are so clear. My bulletin board came out so cute."

That is just one of many reviews!

(This is a 200 piece collaborative coloring 😮 PERFECT if you want to do a whole school activity!)

What is a collaborative coloring??

At its core, a collaborative coloring activity involves a group of students working together to color a bulletin board display. Now where does the academic piece come into play? This is where YOU have to put in just a little bit of work. The majority of the collaborative colorings are editable. That means you, as the teacher, get to enter in the math/science/history/etc. questions that your students are working on. If you look at the picture to the right you can see that the column of questions is empty. This is where you will enter in all your questions.

As you can see in the picture to the left step 1 says to write your questions in table #1 in the 3rd column. After that step you move on to step 2. This is when you start entering in the answer to your questions. Steps 3-12 tell you exactly where to put each answer. It is as easy as that! Once that is all entered, you can print out the student recording sheet (that is the one to the right) for each student. You will also print out all 30 of the coloring pages. Each student gets 1 or 2 pages and a recording sheet. Once they solve the questions, they can color in the pages and they make ONE big picture!

NOW... how can you use these??

  • Whole Class Review Activity-You can use this as a way to get your WHOLE class working together! You can give them all the same questions OR you can specially design them for specific students or different levels (they will all still be making the same picture!) Are your students struggling working together as a team? Well, try this! They have to work together in order to put the whole display together! One teacher said " My students love collaborative projects almost as much as I do. They are always on pins and needles waiting to see exactly what we are creating."

  • Whole Class Activity-Are you looking for a simple seasonal activity? One that doesn't include a review, instead it is simply fun? Well you can use collaborative colorings! You have the option to elimate the quesion and answer aspect and instead just color. To the right is an example of a coloring code key that you can use instead of the key with questions and answers. This option is perfect for class parties for different holidays or a back to school activity!

  • Early Finishers Work-Do you have a variety of students that are finishing before others? This would be a perfect activity for them to work on! Whenever a student has a little extra time they can work on coloring in one of the blocks. Eventually they will discover the picture

  • Small Groups-I also have mini collaborative coloring that are made up of either 4 or 9 pieces. These are PERFECT for your small groups. They will be able to work on answering the questions and discovering the code with you and when they do independent work they can color in their block! Click HERE if you want to check these out!

These are just a couple of the ways that you can use these activities! They are such a fun activity and I know your students will love them! Take a minute to check out some options that I have below!

I am going to leave you with one more reveiw form another teacher like YOU!

"This was a bautiful purchase. All my kid were so confused at first with the coloring but as soon as I started taping the pieces together, they got even more excited and started to rush to finish becasue they wanted to see theirs put up!"
