Get Ready for the New School Year and ENJOY your Summer

adventureswithalys1

Wow... I can't believe that summer is slipping away so fast! Now, you might be getting excited OR you might be a little anxious for the upcoming year. Don't worry, whatever you are feeling is probably normal:)

With that being said, let me first say... Enjoy your summer! This blog post will always be here, so if you want to take a step back and just enjoy your summer, then DO IT. This is your time, but I know some teachers are getting ready to start, so this is for you!

Here is a plan that will help you jump start your school year.

#1 Set Your Goals

As you start planning for the new school year, set goals that you want to achieve for the next school year. What do you hope to accomplish with your students academically, socially, and emotionally? Consider both short-term and long-term goals, and break them down. Figure out what needs to be done first, second, or third. By establishing clear goals, you can stay focused and motivated throughout the school year.

#2 Plan Plan Plan

Now let me ask you, do you enjoy planning out your weekly plans? Because I know I struggled with it some weeks. It is such a repetitive task that is not alway fun! This is how I do it, maybe it will help you get into a routine as well!

1. Review your curriculum, standards, and pacing guides to ensure alignment with grade-level expectations.

2. Plan out a map of your WHOLE year. I separated this map by weeks. So I went through my entire math curriculum and said I am going teach lesson 1-4 week 1, lessons 5-9 week 2, and so on. I did this for each of the subject areas I was teaching. This made it SO easy for weekly planning because I just look at my full year map and took all of the lessons I am supposed to teach in that week and just input it into my weekly plan! Simple as that!

3. Organize your classroom materials, resources, and technology tools in a way that students will be able to easily find resources and easily put them away.

#3 Find Fun Activities!

Here are some of my favorites:)

  1. Back to School Math Collaborative Coloring: Review math skills as you start off the year, while creating a big bulletin board display.

  2. Back to School Get to Know you Activity: This is an interactive Powerpoint that helps students get to know their teacher AND helps teachers get to know their students.

  3. Back to School Pizza Slices: Every student gets a slice, they write/draw about themselves, then you have a display all about your students.

  4. Back to School Activity Cube: Make a cube all about you! Students can make these and then they can be displayed around the room.

#4 Determine what your Classroom Procedures will be

Establishing clear classroom procedures and routines is KEY for creating a positive and structured learning environment. Start procedures and routines on the FIRST day of school. Develop routines for morning arrival, transitions, group work, and classroom management, dismissal, and snack and lunch times. Now is your time to prepare and get ready to do this. If you know exactly what procedures and routines you are going to use in your classroom then GREAT! Make sure you write it down and ow how you are going to teach it. You do not want to teach it one way on the first day and then change it up on the second day. Remember consistency is KEY!

As the new school year approaches, take the time to prepare intentionally and purposefully for the year ahead. Embrace the opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of your students, and approach the new school year with enthusiasm, dedication, and a commitment to excellence. Let's conquer this school year together! Remember you are an amazing teacher, keep up the great work!

Happy Teaching!
